Earlier this Summer I participated in a gorgeous styled shoot organized by 180 Reflections. The shoot entitled 'Maternity and Lavender' featured a beautifully styled model wearing a lace gown and floral crown. It was truly "the stuff dreams are made of" for a photographer.
A friend and I carpooled together for the long ride from Richmond to Catlett, Virginia. Neither of us had met Brandy or Brian of 180 Reflections, nor any of the other participants of the shoot, but were excited for the opportunity. Upon arriving we were in awe of the scene in front of us, with open fields as far as the eye could see. It was so calming and serene, a wonderful escape from the everyday.
After everyone arrived we all introduced ourselves. Brandy and Brian treated us to some yummy snacks, and then we headed over to the lavender field to begin shooting. It was so much fun bouncing ideas off of each another. It's always nice to see things from multiple perspectives. There was also someone behind the scenes holding up a large diffuser to soften the light, which I do not normally have the luxury of when shooting alone. This gave us so much freedom as we didn't have to seek shade or wait for the sun to set to get the perfect lighting.
One of my favorite things about styled shoots is getting to meet and collaborate with other creatives in the industry, from hair stylists, to make-up artists, models, venues, prop rentals, and of course other photographers. It's amazing what can happen when you come together to bring a vision to life. Building relationships is so important in this industry. The portfolio images you come away with are just icing on the cake.
If you are expecting and would like to document this special time in your life, I would be honored to help you do so. Contact me to set up your appointment.
